I asked Kelli to share with me her experience and how I wanted to blog about how fun it is to do a couples photo session and connect with your significant other in a unique experience and well… she basically wrote it for me. HAHA Here’s what she had to say about the fun!!! Also, check out how adorable they are below!!!

“Aaron and I have been married for 8 years this summer. We have two crazy kids with a third on the way. Both of our chosen careers have crazy hours–Aaron as a farmer/rancher and myself as an OB nurse working rotating shifts. With all that in mind, quality date nights are about as easy to find as a four leaf clover, let alone something out of the mundane dinner and movie night together, usually at home after the kids are in bed because it’s hard to find a sitter and the cinema is a farther drive than we care to take. It’s easy to get stuck in the grind of child-rearing, work, activities and commitments, household chores, and so on. In the process of daily life, it’s easy to end up losing a bit of the spontaneity and spark of adventure that we had when just starting out in life together.
Therefore when Courtney approached us in hopes of having us do a couples photo session, child free, (and if I may say, a bit unconventional being lake-side, possibly in the water); it was certainly exciting but admittedly a bit nerve-wrecking too. We haven’t taken pictures of just the two of us since our wedding…so it’s been a while. Also considering I’m at the end of my first trimester of my third pregnancy, I wasn’t feeling super confident about being photographed, possibly in maternity swimwear in all my puffy glory. But we also knew that a kid-free night doing something for ourselves was much needed and heck, what did we have to lose, really? So we packed up our swimsuits, some extra clothes, bug spray, and took the plunge off to the lake (pardon the pun).
I think the photos speak for themselves about how much fun we actually had and how talented Courtney truly is when she can take two awkward and inexperienced people in photography and make us look honestly picturesque. Not only did she make us look great, like photos I am proud to show off on social media and framed on the walls of my home, but she made it genuinely a blast to take part in! To say we sincerely had a great time while perched on hard rocks, swatting at a few pesky mosquitoes, and being on display for the surrounding campers and lake visitors to watch may sound crazy but rather it shows how crazy fun Courtney made the experience! It was refreshing to do something just for ourselves, to step outside our comfort zone together on a mini-adventure on the lake, and to see that we were actually not terribly unphotogenic (even at 11weeks pregnant) was truly fun. Bonus being unlike other kid-free dates of finding a sitter and getting dressed up for a night out, we have some beautiful photos to commemorate our night with, thanks to Courtney and her wonderful gift as an artist.
If you have the opportunity to do so, treat yourself and your significant other to a date night with Courtney and her camera. Even if you’ve been together for years, even if you’ve had a kid or three or more, even if you don’t feel like you’re in your best shape anymore and cringe at the thought of a camera capturing your image, trust me, this is something you will not regret. Break the routine and mundane and do something just for the two of you and let Courtney capture and retell your love story through her many different lenses. I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and go on an adventure together (and with Courtney, I have learned it often is completely an off road adventure with her shoots, so bring the bug spray). You’ll be rewarded with an honest good time and some beautiful and meaningful photos to enjoy and cherish for years to come.”
