When I get families or couples asking me to take their photos, the first thing I like to do is get to know them better. I ask you to tell me about your partner/family. Maybe you don’t realize it but to me taking photographs of your family is so much more than clicking the shutter. It is very intimate and special to me. My chance to show you how I see your family and your slice of the world. It is my unique perspective and hopefully, a view you’ve never seen before. I want moms to see how loving and beautiful they are. Dads deserve to see how needed they are. I see the little moments. Because they really are the big ones.
A couple months ago, Rikki invited me out to photograph her with her daughter and boyfriend at the lake and I loved the idea. She mentioned they are not the “traditional” family but I could feel her love for her daughter, Arya, and boyfriend, Elliott, just from our few chats. Arya had such a fun time adventuring the lake and snuggling her mom and Elliott. She loved running around and dancing to the music. It was such a beautiful night and so much fun…
So what is “traditional” anyway? Does it really matter how you are a family? To me, family is so much more than shared DNA. It is much deeper than that. And on this day, at Twin Lakes, I believe I captured theirs!
Maybe you’d love to have non-traditional family photos taken too? Or maybe you just need to hear that your family matters too! Just because it isn’t the “norm” (which I think is a bunch of shit anyway) your family is just as special and unique and deserves to be documented too! Holla at your girl and let’s plan your own family session.
